The result of candidates who participated in the 2015 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), organized by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board has been released. In a statement made known by the Registrar and Chief Executive of JAMB, Dibu Ojerinde who made it known to correspondent from various media source, that the result of candidates participating in the 2015 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination ( UTME) are sent to them 2 hours after the examination.

Further speaking, Ojerinde asserted that candidate who are yet to receive their result need not panic, as engineers are working quickly to resolve the issue. He also thank the students for their patience.His words; “We denoted that some candidates are yet to received their result, Our Cloud engineers have continued monitoring the environment … We appreciate your patience and are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

[MUST READ] Top 5 Things Most Final Year Student Ignore Before Graduating...

Its no news year after year, Nigerian institutions continue to churn out thousands of graduates into the labour market. Rather unfortunately, statistics continue to show that most of these graduates are unemployable.

However, we need to ask ourselves exactly what criteria was used to come to this conclusion. If Nigerian graduates have been classified as unattractive to employers because of their inability to communicate succinctly in a 5 minute interview, dress smartly or scale through mind-daunting blitzes in the form of aptitude tests, then it really isn’t a case of unemployability (at least in terms of our technical knowledge), but of our inability to adequately prepare for transition to the workplace.

As you would imagine, this preparation process should begin from the University also below five great moves every penultimate or final year student should be making to ensure a smooth, successful transition to their desired industries.

1. Mapping out your post-NYSC route; The truth is that most Nigerian graduates are unemployed because they failed to decide what their short-term plans (2-3 years after graduation) would be. For some it would be Master’s, an Entry Level full-time position or both. This decision is best made in final or penultimate year in college, so you have enough time to prepare accordingly. For those plying the Master’s route abroad, you might need to apply a year ahead of desired intake, which means you need to decide early. Also some scholarships can be secured even before applying to postgraduate programs and final year would be a good time to start. For those seeking entry-level positions to start their careers, you probably would want to conclude on this path earlier, so you can refine your presence for the market place early enough (by adopting the tips below). Of course, there is another category that would love to keep options open by applying for Master’s degrees/scholarships and entry-level positons as well.

2. Serious Drills of aptitude tests formats (SHL, Dragnet); It’s a good thing you have wound up that 4.85 CGPA and are leading your department. However if you are not able to do typical SHL or Dragnet tests and score at least 60% every time, those 3 significant figures might just be for show. Ideally, first year to penultimate year should be spent building your CGPA, but if you are looking to transit to the workplace successfully, you have to change curriculums in final year, ASAP. In addition to project work, final year should be for practicing such tests as SHL, Dragnet, Kenexa and Talentq. These are notorious tests that have ruined the hopes of several stellar-GPA candidates vying for competitive positions in top MNCs. Conversely, not-so-stellar GPA candidates who have a grasp on these tests are finding their way in, and fast. Of course, those going for NYSC immediately still have ample time to prepare but not after the service period. A similar Caveat goes out to graduates seeking to do their Master’s in US or Canadian institutions right after graduation. The GRE is no mean feat. You should begin preparations as early as possible , most top GRE scorers start 2 months ahead of test date to prepare.

3. Taking Public Speaking classes; It is all too common an experience to see very knowledgeable graduates fumble over interviews after putting in so much effort at previous stages of the recruitment process. Interviewing skills are majorly public speaking skills, so the earlier you started working on your stutters, pause-fillers (em, you know, eh), verbosity and low-speaking, the better your chances of excelling at interviews. Most schools have a public speaking class as part of their entrepreneurial programs and if your school doesn’t have one, the internet is your friend. Several public speaking tips can be found on the web, do yourself a favour and explore them.

4. Actively participating in Career fairs/ Networking; Most top Nigerian schools typically have recruitment/ career days where students meet employers who have diverse agendas, from workshops to aptitude tests and actual recruitment. Career days are good avenues for aspiring graduates to initiate relationships with employees of prospective firms, most of which are alumni of the school. For schools without such opportunities, recruitment sites like LinkedIn serve a similar purpose. A good reason for networking would be that, having such connections can be the difference between a good and a great candidate interviewing for a role. While the good candidate has general information about company A, the great candidate has utilized his internal network at company A to find out exactly what makes the company unique. He is also able to get an idea of what the recruitment process would involve at the company – What kind of tests? How many stages of interviews? What type of interview questions (behavioural or Competency based)? All the other guy (the good candidate) knows is that he has interviews with company A, and he would prepare for all types of interviews available – technical, behavioural, competency based etc., a terrible case of misuse of physical and intellectual resources.

5. Using the Jobs/Vacancies Sections Of Social Networks; Just like you graduated from school to the labour market in real life, you also have to graduate from the education section to the job/vacancies section. There's no telling how much useful information you would find there. From internships (For those that have to wait for NYSC mobilization) to Full-time Jobs, to NYSC-suited programs (like the ViMP program of Junior Achievers), there are diverse opportunities for you to explore right from final year. The truth is that most of these recruitment processes take as long as 6 months and even up to a year in some instances. So starting to apply from final/NYSC year would only be strategic in timing. Moreover, you have the opportunity of lots of real interviews (and aptitude tests of course) before you graduate/finish NYSC, so you are much more prepared for your "real" interviews if you don't land a job during the period. These great tips are sure to leave you at the top of your game in today's job-market.

Federal Government Meets To Decide On The Closure Of Schools.

In its efforts to ensure free and fair elections and one that is violence free even after the exercise, the federal government will today decide whether schools, both private and public should be in session or go on break.

This has come as a result of several outcries from students, parents and other stakeholders in the sector who have been calling on the federalgovernment to see the need to shut down schools, at least for two weeks as recent developments within the country have clearly shown that schools are targets for the aggrieved.

The minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau who disclosed this at the weekend during a dinner with media executives and the Education correspondents of Nigeria (ECAN) said “As far as the federal government and the Ministry of Education are concerned, nobody has made a statement concerning the closure of schools.” “However, we are aware that there are agitations and conflicting views with some stating that schools should be closed and there will be no need to go to school.“To address this issue, the ministry has summoned all commissioners of education and other stakeholders for a meeting by Monday (today) 2pm so that the issue can be discussed.“It is not just a matter of the ministry sitting in the office and dishing out directives. There is a need to meet with stakeholders so that the benefits or otherwise of the closure of schools can be discussed but with the interest of the nation first.”

Lagos Day Tertiary Institution Gives 22 Day Holidays For Election....

    The Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, has directed its full-time and part-time students to proceed on a 22-day holiday to enable them to exercise their civic rights during next month’s general elections.

This was contained in a bulletin by Head, Public Relations Unit of the college, Mr Charles Oni. According to the bulletin, the holiday will start from February 11 and end on March 4. It also stated that hostels and lecture theatres would be under lock and key throughout the period.  

The bulletin quoted the Rector of the college, Dr Margaret Ladipo, as appealing to the students to comport themselves during the holiday. Mixed reactions, however, trailed the announcement, as some students said the holiday would disrupt the second semester academic calendar.Others commended the management for being safety conscious and allowing students, who are not residents in Lagos to travel for the elections.

   Miss Ronke Adeyemi, a National Diploma, Science and Laboratory Technology part-time student, told the News Agency of Nigeria, that it was a good decision.“It is a good decision and I am happy with it. It is very risky for us to stay on campus during the elections because anything can happen.“I will use the period to read and prepare for my test because as soon as we resume in March, we are starting our test,’’ she said.  

  
Another student, who pleaded anonymity, said the holidays was too long and would deny the students the opportunity to receive enough lectures and prepare for examinations.The National Diploma Textile Technology student said the holiday should be reduced to 10 days in the interest of the students..

Government College Katsina Principal Gets Death Threats For Releasing Buhari’s Results..

Barely 24 hours after releasing Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’s 1961 West African School Certificate (WASC) results, the Principal of the Government College, Katsina, Mallam Isyaku Bello, has been receiving death threats.The source of the threats could not be ascertained last night.

The principal was summoned by his employers, the Katsina State Ministry of Education, in connection with the release of the results, sources close to Mallam Bello said last night.The embattled principal was said to have explained that he needed to defend the integrity of the college (formerly Provincial Secondary School, Katsina) and not Gen. Buhari.
Bello made distress calls to his friends and relatives, The Nation learnt.

One source said: “Some forces were unhappy with the issuance of results to Gen. Buhari and they have been threatening the principal. They have been calling him names, abusing him. Some were actually threatening to deal with him. “They told the principal that he ought to have left Buhari to his fate instead of releasing his results.“Faced with pressure, the principal has reached out to friends and relatives on the threats. He explained that he did so to protect the integrity of the college and not anybody’s.“We hope that no harm will come upon the principal, who was just doing his job.”

It was unclear as at press time last night whether Bello had reported the threat to the police or not. He did not pick his calls and messages to his telephone were not replied .A highly-placed source in APC Presidential Campaign Council confirmed the threats. He said: “This is an unfortunate development if it is true that the principal is really being harassed for doing an official assignment.”But another source said: the Katsina State Government actually consented to the release of the results by the Ministry of Education in view of the sensitive nature of the issue at hand.

A government source said: “Since the WASC results of Buhari had become political, the position of the government was that the principal ought to have cleared the air after all Buhari is a citizen of the state.When contacted, the SA Media to Governor Ibrahim Shema, Mr. Lawal Ahmad Matazu, said:  ”Is that so? I’m hearing it for the first time from you. I will find out. Thanks.”

Nigerian Army Admit They Have Buhari Certificates

Yesterday, a military source told Vanguard that the military does not have Gen. Buhari's certificate. Today, the director of public relations of the Nigerian Army Brigadier Olaleye Lajide, dismissed the reports, saying the military have his academic records, that they're just waiting forhim to apply for it..

According to Sahara Reporters The military spokesman made the disclosure while responding to a text message from Sahara Reporters seeking clarification about the status of Mr. Buhari’s records.

Brigadier Lajide affirmed that the Nigerian Army is in possession of all records of serving, retired and deceased officers since its inception. He added, however, that all military officers are supposed to keep original copies of their certificates.

According to him, in the event where an officer loses his or her original copy of records, the concerned officer must officially apply for copies from the army. He stated that the army responds to such requests in an expeditious manner.

Brigadier Lajide told our correspondent that he was a former director of records at the Nigerian Army headquarters and had seen records of older and retired generals. He added that he was in no doubt that General Buhari’s records were intact.

Brigadier Olaleye insisted that the claim in a major Nigerian newspaper, that the army could not locate Mr. Buhari’s record was untrue.

My Christmas gift to my lovely viewers in higher institutions; There are many easy ways to stay awake while studying at night, but students in higher institution of learning and secondary schools hardly notice it, hence, they ignore this simple and easiest life style that can help them stay awake to study at might. Its already scientifically proven that students who study at Night tends to understand more than those that study during the day. Here are 4 Simple tips that can ease of the temptation of late night reading:

1. Drink a Lot of Water; Whenreaders you’re trying to stay awake water is the way to go. Dehydration can make you sleepy, so keeping your body hydrated will stave off those symptoms. If you are really sleepy, drink a lot of water to make sure you stay up. If you have to get up to go to the bathroom, it will definitely keep you awake! by water I don’t mean alcohol or coffee because it may contain water).

2. Take Breaks; Your brain is a complex thing but it still needs rest if you want to study hard for a long time as well as doing the best you can on your test. Schedule out your time so you can take a break try a study routine for 45 minutes, break for 15, and so forth. Set the alarm on your mobile so you don’t forget (or if you’re afraid you’ll fall asleep). Watch a TV show, talk to a friend, read a book, or listen to some music but nothing school related at all, even if it’s a TV show.

3. Exercise; Exercise can be a great way to wake yourself up take a short walk, dance to some music on your iPod (without waking up your roommates or your parents depending on where your living and the time), or head over to the gym for a little while. Taking a shower after a workout can wake you up even more (cold will wake you up but shocking the body’s never good so just a general shower). Don’t Study Somewhere Comfortable No curling up into a nice ball on your pillow with soft music playing the background will not help you stay awake, maybe heavy metal rock will but its better just to sit on a chair back straight lamp on and revise, no pillows when your body wants to sleep yet you have to fight it comfortability should be what your actively seeking to stop.

4. Eat a Snack; Get your blood sugar up by eating a healthy snack (junk food will just give you a burst of energy but then you’ll crash and collapse for 7 hours, wake up and realise you didn’t do any revision). Apples are always a good food to help you keep your blood sugar stable so you can stay awake (a lot of people say they will wake you up better than caffeine and hey its also one of your 5-a-day).

5. Dig out your trainers and get moving; Everyone knows that exercise is good for you but did you know it can help you achieve better grades? Well the research suggests it does. President GEJ Booed and Stoned By Obafemi Awolowo University Student...

I don't seem to get a hang of this news, some say he was hailed but according to Sahara reporters There was unrest on the campus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Osun State, southwest Nigeria, Today Friday, 28 November, 2014 as students of the institution hauled stones and sticks at President Goodluck Jonathan during his visit to the campus.

President Jonathan, notable traditional rulers in the southwest and politicians had attended the Yoruba Unity Summit organised by the Committee on Yoruba Progress, southwest geo-political zone of the country where the president was endorsed for his re-election in the 2015 general election.

But the placard-wielding students of the institution who had converged at the Oduduwa Hall, venue of the conference to protest what they termed “rot in the educational sector” booed and stoned President Jonathan while entering the presidential chopper few minutes after the summit.

The irate protesters were shouting “ole”“ole” (“thief”, “thief”) at the president and other notable politicians who attended the event. They displayed placards with inscriptions like: “We Condemn Jos Killing of Students, Students Are Not Chicken”, Don’t Sell Education As You Sold Electricity.”, We Demand Total Reversal of 2014 Hiked School Fees, We are Not Responsible For Jonathan’s Ineptitude.” among other inscriptions.

The students who were in their hundreds barricaded the road leading to the school’s sports centre where the chopper wearing the seal of the Federal Government and marked Nigerian Air Force, NAF-280, requesting that President Jonathan should address them before departing the campus.

In the ensuing unrest, the convoy of President Jonathan was delayed for few minutes as the students refused the President and his entourage passage to board the chopper despite pleadings by some security operatives. Also, the Governor of Ekiti state, Mr. Ayodele Fayose who attempted to pacify the angry students was booed as students chorused ‘thief on him.

The vehicle conveying the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade was not spared as students sat at the front of his vehicle for minutes before he was eventually allowed passage. While the President was boarding the chopper, some students continue to aim pebbles at the chopper before they were dispersed by security operatives. although none of the thrown missiles touched the president.

Some students who had examinations also expressed their displeasure at the condition they were subjected to owing to President Jonathan’s visit to the campus. Most of the students had to walk long distance to their examinations’ venues as there was no vehicular movement on campus and its environs.

Meanwhile, a segment of the Yoruba people at the conference endorsed President Jonathan for a second term of office even as they urged him to help recover their political and social values.

Fear OF Boko Haram!!! Niger State Strengthen Security In Tertiary Institutions..

I will Just keep my fingers crossed and still hope they are not here in minna... Don't sweat it, I school there for those wondering while am emphasising on it..

Meanwhile In a bid to forestall another suicide bomb attack at the Federal College of Education, Kontagora, the Niger state Police command has beefed up security in all higher institutions across the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Olushola Amore, disclosed this to journalists in Minna, the capital of Niger State. He mentioned that henceforth students will be be thorough screened and searched before entering all the nine higher Institutions across the state.

The Police boss also used the opportunity of the briefing to warn Politicians in the state to avoid violence as the command will not tolerate such.

A female suicide bomber had blown herself up at the Federal College of Education, Kontagora, in Niger State, killing her self and  a 200-level student of the college in the incident and leaving four others injured. No group claimed responsibility for the attack but it is believed that the terrorist group, Boko Haram, was behind it.

Breaking News: University Of Jos Shutdown Indefinitely..

I saw it coming.. i only hope they resolve this problem quickly even though I still believe a peaceful protest should have been done after the exam..

The University of was shut down indefinitely after a protest by students over hike in fees turned violent. The protest started Monday morning with students holding university administrators hostage in their offices.

Security officials where later called in today when  the protest continued to calm the situation, But a soldier attached to the Special Taskforce on Jos crisis (STF), instead of calming the situation opened fire on protesters leaving at least 8 students with gun wounds including a blind one.

The University Registrar, Jully Dandam, after a hurriedly convened management meeting, announced the institution will remain closed till further notice. The school management also ordered all students to vacate the campus before 2 p.m. today as a way of halting the violence and stopping the crisis from spreading to other parts of the state.

None of the students has died, but some are presently receiving treatment. The Special Taskforce (STF) spokesperson has however denied a soldier with them shot the wounded students, but confirmed they had gun wounds, but might be from other security officers invited by the school management.

I still believe they should have wait till After the exam.. Anyway as the Situation Moves into Strike Day 2.. Students of the University of Jos continued their protests today following yesterday's chaos in the school over what they say is a 100% increase in school fees. ‎

The protesting students set fire in front of the school gate this afternoon, insisting that school authority must reduce their fees. The students say the fee was N27,800 but has now been increased to #60,000. They also say they were forced to pay for developmental levy which has never been used for any development within the university.

They said all effort by the student union government to speak with the Vice Chancellor of the university Prof. Hayward Babale Mafuyai, was met with a brick wall as the VC refused to negotiate with the students.

Following his refusal to speak with students, they took to the streets to protest, blocking all roads leading to the university of Jos thereby bringing all activities to a stand still. All university activities was also boycotted including the exams that was meant to start yesterday 24th November.
